Here’s Something You Don’t See Every Day…

I came across a blog that talked about an offline form of Widgeteer advertising today. Sort of…

Odd… A bit of mystery, really.

When I began my career as a translator in ‘78, the hottest tool around was the IBM Selectric II. With its typeball and corrector button that erased one character at a time, it was a huge step up from the Olympia typewriter I used at university.

But it was the IBM PC – a 256-K marvel – in ‘82 that revolutionized my line of work. No more liquid paper, corrector tape or retyping! This earliest desktop computer saved tons of time. Productivity and earning capacity shot up.

Of course, we’re talking 3 years before the first Windows! It was a time when nobody knew what a website was, let alone try and build one in 7 minutes.

Yup, 5¼” floppies, no hard drive (didn’t exist), and DOS commands. You had to boot from a floppy in drive A, and then load up a word processor – WordStar or MultiMate – from several more floppies. To use the spellchecker or thesaurus, you popped in another floppy…

You couldn’t do much without typing in a DOS command. I learned what I had to, and moved to the next level. (We’re getting closer to building a website in 7 minutes.)

Enter the Internet. No longer would I rely on couriers to deliver my translations. Online databases and word banks soon made my wall-to-ceiling reference library obsolete. But it still wasn’t then that I learned how to build a website in 7 minutes.

I began to work long-distance, keeping in touch with my clients while roaming the world… Until one day, I desired another kind of freedom.

Time

Though I already had more lifestyle freedom than most, I still spent too many of my waking hours on the job. It was not uncommon for me to translate 13 hours a day, for days and weeks on end.

Plus my eyesight problems were starting. Hemorrhaging eyeballs can stop you in your tracks!

I began growing a marketer’s eye. I combed the Internet in search of a semi-automatic way to make a living online. The big questions were What? and How?

As Seen On Television!

Recently, there was a commercial on television in the United States where a group of young entrepreneurs wasanxiously awaiting the opening of their new website. As they open the doors to the website, the counter at the bottom of the page begins spinning faster and faster. Their smiles quickly turn to looks of concern, then fear, and finally panic. When we kicked our doors open, this is exactly what we experienced.

Almost immediately, The Widgeteers™ became over 5,000 members strong which is clearly outstanding. Enter the Gremlins

It’s Back to School for many, but September 2 is also Let the Show Begin for The Widgeteers.com. That’s the day all parts of The Widgeeers back office open to the public and the ad widget system goes fully live. Several thousand people have already flocked to the site during pre-launch, and are raring to start using the viral ad system. For the remaining 10 days of pre-launch, we are focusing on making the website rock solid. We’re finalizing every detail to provide you with great service from Day 1.
